Institute for Statistics and Mathematics
Fulltime, 40 hours/week
Starting November 01, 2026, and ending after 4 years
 
For this position a multi-stage evaluation is planned after three years. After successful achievement, employment shall be made permanent.
 
You enjoy teaching and research in a stimulating academic atmosphere. As senior lecturer will be responsible for independent academic teaching in mathematics and statistics in the context of the WU bachelor and in various master programs offered by WU. Moreover, you will participate actively in the research activities of the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics.

What to expect

Specific responsibilities in this job include

  • Academic teaching in mathematics and statistics in the context of WU’s BSc and MSc programs; teaching hours comprise approximately 10 weekly teaching hours per semester (the exact amount depends on the other duties taken over by the successful applicant).
  • Planning, development and quality control for lectures teaching in mathematics and satistics, both for classroom, hybrid and online formats
  • Supervision of academic theses on the bachelor and master level
  • Managerial duties (Planpunktverantwortung) in mathematics or statistics as well as organization of exams
  • Development of suitable software solutions for teaching and examination purposes
  • Academic support for WUs central entrance exam
  • Independent research activities in mathematics or statistics in economics and business, in line with the overall research agenda of the Institute for Statistics and Mathematics

What you have to offer

  • Doctorate/PhD in mathematics, statistics or equivalent (upon commencement of the contract)
  • Teaching experience in mathematics or statistics at the university level
  • Proven ability to teach in German and English
  • Excellent didactic skills, documented for instance in teaching evaluations
  • Willingness to use multimedia teaching methods: You are prepared to use multimedia teaching and learning formats.
  • Scientific expertise in mathematics / statistics and their application in economics and business documented by publications in relevant international journals and by conference participation
  • Willingness to participate in the scientific discourse at the institute for statistics and mathematics
  • Experience with software solutions for automated exam generation and marking is an advantage

The minimum monthly gross salary amounts to €5,014.30 (14 times per year). This salary may be adjusted based on equivalent prior work experience. In addition, we offer a wide range of attractive social benefits.
